Audience: Family support staff who have been employed in their current role one year or less
This interactive training series provides an orientation to the philosophy underlying the theoretical and research base of family support and a view of the goals, practices and implementation strategies for working with parents in Educare schools.
The series is comprised of three separate contacts, two in-person and one virtual, starting in October and running through December 2017. When registering, participants are committing to attend all three required contacts.
Description
Training Objectives
Upon the completion of this three-contact training series, Family Support Core Training participants will be able to:
- Describe family support staff’s role in implementing the Network’s three guiding principles for family support and its logic model for intensive family engagement.
- Explain how parents’ experiences in an Educare school impact their motivation and engagement with staff and in participating in program activities, especially those activities geared towards the parent.
- Implement strategies that support the parent-child relationship, with the goal of supporting the child’s growth, development and overall education.
- Distinguish child-rearing practices that are driven by culture, as well as those that are not; and be able to recognize those parenting and cultural practices that are to be accepted, respected and supported in working with families.
- Plan and implement a ‘match’ between the worker’s own approach in the family support work and individual children’s and families’ needs.
- Increasingly identify and develop family support and family engagement strategies within a multidisciplinary context.
The Educare Learning Network will cover the following expenses:
- Airfare
- Hotel accommodations (two nights per in-person contact)
- Meals (breakfast, lunch and snacks during training)

Travel
Airfare
The Educare Learning Network will reimburse your organization for airfare expenses. We will also cover one baggage fee per person each way. Airfare arrangements should be completed at least 21 days prior to the travel date. All flights must be booked in economy class. Airfares greater than $500 must be approved before purchase by contacting us at registration@educarenetwork.org. Please forward original receipts within 30 days of the event for timely reimbursement.
Driving
For participants driving to Chicago or Omaha, there will be a mileage reimbursement of $0.54 per mile, for up to $500.

Airport shuttle service
The Ground Transportation Center for Eppley Airfield is located inside of Door #3 on the lower level of the terminal building.
Hotel Deco XV Complimentary Shuttle Service. The hotel’s transportation to and from the airport runs 24/7. When you arrive at the airport with luggage in hand call the hotel 402.991.4981 and say you are ready to be picked up. The hotel will then send the Navigator Airport Express to pick you up outside of Door #4. Cross the street and wait on the median. To return to the airport, sign up for the service at the front desk. The shuttle service leaves for the airport on the half hour. The service is complimentary and the vehicle sits six people with luggage.
I-80 Navigator Airport Express. 800-888-9793. Offers service Monday–Saturdays. Reservations are recommended, but not required from the airport. However, reservations are required for your return trip to the airport. Price per person: Single person, one-way: $38

Many car rental agencies also offer courtesy buses to various automobile pick‑up and drop‑off areas.

Car Rental at Chicago Midway International Airport
The car rental companies’ offices are located inside the terminal on the lower level. Car rental pick-up and drop-off points are found on Level 2 of the Midway Airport Parking Garage, located east of Cicero Avenue. Most of these companies provide vehicles for persons with mobility impairments. They need notification two to three days before your visit to Midway Airport.

Hotels
The Educare Learning Network will handle your hotel accommodation throughout your stay with us. We will cover the cost for your room plus tax for two nights per in-person contact. Guests are required to provide a credit card during check-in to cover the cost of incidentals and other additional charges.
Email confirmations will be sent directly from the hotel to each attendee.
Attendees wishing to extend their stay at the group rate must submit their request in writing. All extended stay requests are subject to availability and will be at the expense of the attendee unless your return transportation requires an additional overnight stay.

Cancellations
- Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to date of arrival
- The Educare Learning Network must be notified of all cancellations by contacting us at registration@educarenetwork.org.
- Be advised that cancellation of individual reservations made up to 48 hours prior to arrival will be accepted and the deposit refunded for those rooms for the full night’s stay.
- Failure to cancel reservation will result in a no-show fee to the Educare Learning Network.
